Looking for a WordPress Developer in Yorkshire?

Looking for a WordPress Developer in Yorkshire?

If you are searching for a WordPress developer in Yorkshire, you are probably in one of two situations. Either you have a site somebody built years ago that has quietly become a problem, or you need a new one and you do not want to end up with the same thing again. I get both calls, and the questions worth asking are much the same either way.

I am Adam. I work from Hull, I have been building for the web for about fifteen years, and I take on WordPress work across East Yorkshire and the wider county. You deal with me, not an account manager who passes it on.

What local actually buys you

Technically, not much. WordPress does not care where the developer sits, and I do plenty of work for people I have never met in person. What being local does buy you is simpler than that. A meeting in a room when a project genuinely needs one. Someone who knows what a Hull, Beverley or York business is dealing with. And a person you can find.

That last one matters more than people admit. A lot of web work in this region gets handed to whoever answered the phone, and eighteen months later that number does not work and nobody has the logins.

Questions to ask anyone you are considering

  • Who writes the code? Ask it directly. Some firms sell locally and build somewhere else entirely.

  • Do I own the site and the hosting? You should. If it lives inside somebody's own platform, you are renting.

  • What happens when I want to change something? A site you cannot edit is a site you will stop updating.

  • How many plugins will this need? Every plugin is somebody else's code running on your site.

  • Can I see something you built that is still live and still quick?

What I do differently with WordPress

Most WordPress sites in this country are a premium theme, plus a page builder, plus about thirty plugins. That gets you live quickly and it gets slow just as quickly. I build the theme, so the site runs the code it needs and nothing else. The editing screens get set up around what you actually publish, so the admin is not full of options nobody will ever touch.

I also use AI properly in the build, which is not the same thing as generating a site and hoping. It takes the repetitive work, which means my time goes on the parts that need judgement. The project moves faster and the output does not get worse. I have written about how that works elsewhere on this blog.

The speed thing

Speed is not vanity. A slow site loses people before they have seen anything you sell. Most of the WordPress sites I inherit are carrying a page builder, two or three caching plugins arguing with each other, and a gallery of images uploaded straight off somebody's phone. Fixing that is usually not a rebuild. It is a morning of auditing and then a clear list of what is costing you what, in order.

What I take on

  • New WordPress builds with a hand built theme, set up so your own team can run it.

  • Speed and Core Web Vitals work on sites that already exist.

  • Rescues, where the last developer has gone and nobody knows where anything is.

  • Moving off a website builder without losing your search rankings.

  • Ongoing care: updates, backups, and somebody to ring.

What I do not take on here

Large scale ecommerce replatforming and Magento work do not belong on this site. I did that for years and I still do it, but through Headless Digital, which is the right home for it. If your project is a serious online store, say so on the first call and I will point you at headless-digital.com rather than pretending this is the right fit.

How to start

I run a free thirty minute surgery. There is no pitch at the end of it. Bring the site, or bring the idea, and I will tell you what I would do and roughly what it involves. If the answer is that you do not need me, I will say that too. A fair few of these calls end with me telling somebody their site is fine and they should spend the money elsewhere.

If that sounds useful, book a slot or have a look at the WordPress work I take on.
