That is me working out what the site is for, who it is talking to, what pages it needs and what has to happen when somebody fills the form in. For most small businesses this is not a from-scratch art project, it is deciding on structure, type, colour and how the key pages hang together, then agreeing it before anyone touches code.",{"type":156,"content":185},[186,188,194],{"text":187,"type":160},"The actual build takes a week to ten days. Templates, the content structure, the forms, making sure the person who owns the site can edit it without ringing me. I have had projects sit finished for six weeks waiting on three paragraphs and a logo file. The developer is not the bottleneck at that point, and no amount of chasing changes it, because writing about your own business is hard and it always loses to the actual work of running the business.",{"type":156,"content":218},[219],{"text":220,"type":160},"If you want a fast build, have your content ready before the project starts. Not perfect, just written. Page titles, a paragraph or two each, your real service descriptions, decent photos. That is a completely normal answer. Redirects, checking what currently ranks, making sure the email keeps working. An online shop is a different animal to a brochure site, and it is not a small addition on the end.",{"type":156,"content":243},[244],{"text":245,"type":160},"Decisions by committee. If four people have to agree on the homepage, add two weeks and make your peace with it. A booking system, a members area, something that talks to software you already use. Each one is its own small project.",{"type":156,"content":251},[252],{"text":253,"type":160},"Third parties. Your accountant has the domain login. The old developer is not answering. Someone has to find the Google account from 2017. Speed comes from building it properly in the first place, which takes about the same amount of time as building it badly. Usually it is the planning, which means you get a template with your logo dropped in and no thought about what the site is supposed to achieve. Sometimes it is the testing, and you find out on a customer's phone. It is worth asking where it comes from.
